Praynstorming: Yielding to His Voice

Penned by Alice Hanh

The other day, as Torin and I were talking through some new logo and rebranding ideas for Run To Win, my tongue slipped and I said “praynstorming” instead of “brainstorming.” But that’s just it! Instead of running around in our own little world of figuring out what we could do, who we could talk to, what resources we could pull from, sometimes the shortcut is to stop and “pray-nstorm”. The trick is to remember that we are not alone. We must come back to the Cross daily and lay down our old selves.

“ Rejoice always,  pray without ceasing,  give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”

+ 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 +

If we are in Christ, then we are never alone. However, it is very human of us to forget easily that the Holy Spirit is always with us. It does take training and an intentional change of mindset to remind us that we are no longer alone and that His Spirit is in us.

If it wasn’t in the human condition to forget, Paul would not have pleaded with us to “not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind” in Romans 12:2. We are constantly bombarded with distractions, and it is easy to get consumed with what the world is telling us about who we are and how we need to look, act, and feel. In turn, we attempt to make our lives fit the mold of the world, ultimately losing sight of the true identity we have in Jesus. Paul wants us to know that we are not what the world says we are, but who Jesus says we are. We are able to find that truth once we come to him and seek him.

From Him, everything flows. There would be no life without Him. The God of the universe, the One who created the world in everything in and beyond it, the One who spoke life into existence, the One who cares about the details of our lives, is the One who is inside of you and equipping you to do more than you could ever imagine! So instead of starting in our own heads, start on your knees. Start where you are in this very moment, honest and raw before Him. Start at the Cross every moment of every day, where we come with our worries, anxiety, confusion, anger, sadness, and frustration. Where we lay our old selves and mindsets down and start knowing that our identity and everything from it comes from  Him. This is where true strength comes – from the knowledge and acceptance of belonging to Him!

Start with Him in your secret place in every circumstance, worry, and joy. He wants to be a part of it because He is yours and you are His. The Holy Spirit is our Helper and best friend, and I’d say, with Him we got it good!
